Recording project - Tom 'Ketchfish' Inglis

I've just purchased a new pc. I needed more processing power and unlimited, exclusive access to it, primarily to use it for music. I was sharing my pc with my family and I couldn't leave things set up for recording and I was undergoing lot's of crashing of the multi-tracking program - the processor was just way to underpowered to handle the job.

Now, I know what you're thinking. Why wouldn't I get a Mac for this kind of work? In a word, money. I could get more 'bang for my buck' with a pc. Also, my needs are fairly modest. I expect my finished product will only have a couple guitar tracks, a stereo percussion track, a bass track and a few vocal tracks - probably 8 to 12 tracks total.

Since I picked up the computer, I've done a little experimenting and even with multiple effects on each of 12 tracks and overall compression, EQ and an effect or two, everything has run fine, no slowdowns or crashes. There are three projects I'm going to be doing.

1 - I'm going to re-record some of my older originals and add to them a few new originals. I plan on performing most of the tracks myself on this one.

2- I'm going to do a 'covers' project with blues and old rock & roll. Again, I will likely do most or all of the tracks myself.

3 - I'm working on a Christmas project. I will be playing most of the instruments and many of the vocals but my sister will also be performing on this one. She's got an awesome voice. This will have a couple traditional Christmas songs but will be mostly be blues and old rock & roll style holiday songs.

I plan on releasing all three of these projects by next October at the latest. Primarily, I plan to distribute them as digital downloads but I will also have physical products (CD's) available for sale at most of my gigs. I have a few ideas for retailing them in non-traditional outlets as well. There's a local comedian, Bob Marley, that's been distributing CD's and DVD's at local convenience stores and this is a model I've been looking at. Also bars where I've played, coffee shops and tourist retail locations are possibilities I plan to look at.

At the same time, I'm hoping of recording at least an EP with my band The Ketchfish Brothers. This would later be the basis of a full-length release. That's my plan anyway but much will depend on my bandmates.

That's all I've got for you right now. When I'm further along, I will put some samples up on this website. I hope I can count on your unbiased opinions and suggestions whan this happens.

Thanks for reading my blog!

Tom "Ketchfish" Inglis

Welcome to Musicians United Resources

This is our main website. You'll notice there is quite a bit of content here, but it's still only part of what Musicians United Resources is all about. There are several web groups, Yahoo, Google, Multiply and more, that support the membership functions of the group. For musicians to take full advantage of what MUR has to offer, they will need to join at least one of them. That entitles you to the promotional opportunities, current and future, that are a major part of our usefulness to Musicians.

Anyways, take a look around and feel free to post your feedback. Don't be a jerk though, constructive criticism is welcome - uncouth behavior is not.

tomketchfish,
webmaster
Musicians United Resources
